The Non-Diet...

I'm in this competition to lose 10% of my weight in 12 weeks or less- thanks to one of my smack talking friends :)
So I started a different way of eating. I'm telling myself it's not a diet otherwise I'm bound to fail! There's money on the line so I really can't afford to lose. I'm doing this non diet- where my meals are proportioned and I have to eat tons of rabbit food, and fruit (at least I like fruit).

I made a recent discovery about myself in the one day I've been on the non diet. I consider myself to be a pretty health conscious person (you can't tell by my plump figure), but I have been doing something subconsciously probably since I became a mom.
I eat my kids left overs!-A lot!
I pick at their food and don't even realize it. Because I was paying attention yesterday, since I can ONLY eat what's on my non diet plan I had to mentally STOP myself so many times yesterday when I naturally licked the bit of peanut butter that was left on the knife, or eat the grapes left that Josh doesn't ever eat. So all these years I've been consuming extra calories at breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Please tell me I'm not the only one that does this.Yikes! I probably have tons more bad habits that I need to break that I don't even realize! So that was my revelation for yesterday. So to my friend who shall remain nameless- you better watch out- cause I'm taking the jack pot!!!

Trippin'

This one's going around. I thought it'd be ... interesting to read some memories.

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.

The truth be known...

I love reading blogs, but updating them... not so much. It's fun once I'm done, but I really have to make myself sit down and do it. So no, we haven't fallen off the face of the earth since July 1st. We've just been busy,or should I say the kids have been busy and I have been tired. Some how I managed to schedule Z an S for Art and a stretch and movement class at the YMCA Mon thru Thurs. I thought when I signed up that it was M or W class and the other T or Th class (thinking twice a week not too bad) Then I found out art is M AND W and the other T AND Thurs- duh what was I thinking. This wouldn't be too bad except that they're also in swim lessons everyday and J is taking piano, computer programing (now I'm just whining, these are up the street) and he's doing a TAG camp(talented and gifted program- Josh was tested and made it in this year- yay Josh). Which by the way he loves, they call it the mystery festival- they try to solve a murder case by the end of the week by learning about forensic science. He's loving it. It's amazing how quickly activities can add up with multiple kids with out even realizing it. What was I thinking?? This leaves me with little time to do the important things in life like say...blogging. By the end of the day, I'm too tired, I just enjoy surfing the net and catching up with everyone by way of blogging. I just check everyone else's and think how fun, I should probably post something. So there you have it- I'm a blog reading junkie not a posting junkie. Pray for me :)

  4. Who is taller? Mike (I'm 5'3 he's 5'8)
  5. Who is smarter? Hands down he is!! He's a natural, I have try a lot harder.

  7. Who does the laundry? Me!
  8. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I do (facing from the bottom)
  9. Who pays the bills? We both do. I cut the checks, but he reminds me when they're due.
  10. Who cooks more? I do. I love to cook, Mike doesn't I cook he cleans up. - it works out beautifully.
  11. What meals do you cook together? We do make Saturday morning breakfast together as a fam. He and the kids do the pancake assortment, and I do everything else. He's also an occasional omelet maker.
  12. Who is more stubborn? hmm... it's a tie. We're both really stubborn!
  13. Who is the first to admit they're wrong? Tie again, we take turns. We're both always right!
  14. Who has more siblings? Mike- 6 to 2.
  15. Who wears the pants in the relationship? I thought we both did, but he saw this and he thinks I do. I guess I kind of do, but he likes it that way.
  16. What do you like to do together? Laugh. He's very silly. That's probably our most favorite thing to do together. But something we really love to do that we don't as much is read books together. It's hard with kids, callings, work and just life. I still read, and just give him the jist of the chapter I'm reading. We also love watching movies together and then picking it apart and analyzing everything about it. Like most others we love to do just about anything together it's just fun having a companion you love to be with.
  17. Who eats more sweets? Definitely Mike- (yes the dentist has the BIGGEST sweet tooth of them all!) I like sweet treats too, but not quite as much as he does.
  18. Guilty pleasures? Blue Bell Icecream.
  19. How did you meet?He knocked, I answered . Mike came over to my apartment with his best friend Joseph looking for Emily (Joseph's sister and my roomate). Mike had just gotten back from his mission and was back at school and couldn't find his apartment. So he came to ask Emily how to find it. Joseph actually made me ride in Mike's car, since everyone piled into Emily's car and he was alone. He had dental floss on his dashboard and the rest is history.
  20. Who asked who out first? He did- in a round about way. He called and invited me to go see a movie at the international cinema at BYU, saying he was inviting a big group of people. We were ALL to meet at his apt, then low and behold, I'm the only one who showed up. Did he ever really invite others??? I still don't know to this day.
  21. Who kissed who first? Well, he did thinking I was wanting him to. ( and I did). We were saying our good byes and we hugged and I kissed his cheek ( I accidently do this with out realizing it when I feel close to someone, it's a latin thing I got from my family) and so he took this as the go ahead. I was surprised, but glad.
  22. Who proposed? Mike.
  23. His best features? His hazel eyes, his smile and his feet. (I know that sounds weird, but I really like his feet- they're very attractive)
  24. His best qualities? He's very down to earth and easy to be around. I also like his optimism, he always sees the good in things and never complains. He works hard and doesn't expect praise and does it just because that's who he is. He's humble and doesn't like much attention. His best quality is that he's the sweetest dad and husband - he loves spending time with us and serving us.
  25. I'm not tagging anyone else~ you're all off the hook.

A day at Six Flags Fiesta!

A week and a half ago, Savannah had Roseola and we made a trip to the ER because she had a febrile seizure due to a spike in temperature. She went from 101- 104+ in a matter of minutes! She's totally fine now- thank goodness, but her fever and rash went on for a full week, and she was contagious so we had to stay indoors. Needless to say we had cabin fever by the end!! So we convinced Mike to go to Six Flags (he had to give a talk in church the next morning- so he was a little hesistant)and we had the best day! Josh had a free ticket from the school reading program and we got some sweet deals on coupons. Mike's a sucker for a good deal so we won. We were nervous at first since it was SUPER crowded! But then we realized, not many people with little kids go there, and there's tons of little kids stuff to do- so the crowd was mostly teenagers and up. We didn't ever have to wait in long lines to ride stuff, and the water park rocked!!! Plus all the characters just stood around waiting for a kid to come up and take pictures(quite different from Disneyland!) ~ so that was fun for our kids. Unfortunately my camera died half way through so I didn't get pictures of Bugs bunny, Scooby Doo or Daphne. Oh well. We were pleasantly surprised and had much more fun than expected. The shows were amazing too. 6 thumbs up for Six Flags

Cubscout Day Camp 2008

So this was Josh's first time to attend a week long Cubscout day camp. I was lucky enough to get to volunteer the first day and check out some of the things the boys got to do as I served as a den leader with our good neighbor John. (AKA- Ben's dad)
It was fun to watch this group of 10- 7-9 year old boys work on things toward their wolf badges and observing boys just being boys. They got to learn how to cook, do archery, fishing, bb gun shooting, ultimate sports, water sports, first aid, snakes and the list goes on. It was an exhausting week for them as they were outside from 9am-5pm in the texas sun (98-101 degrees!) He loved it. His favorite was coming home and making grilled cheese sandwiches for everyone. I was pretty excited -one day off from making dinner- I'll take that any day!

I've been Tagged

Okay here are the rules:
  1. You link back to the person who tagged you
  2. Post these rules on your blog
  3. Share six unimportant things about yourself
  4. Tag six random people at the end of your entry
  5. Let the tagged people know by leaving a comment on their blogs
  6. Enjoy the results!

So I've been tagged! Here goes:

* CAUTION- I'm really long winded, so this is lengthy! which is why I usually don't do these. You've been warned. Read a your at your own risk*

1. I lived in Costa Rica for a year after I graduated HS.- after graduation, I had plans to attend college in California, when my parents decided to move to Wendover, Utah. I was only 17 years old when I graduated, so my parents refused to let me stay in CA and do the college thing with out them there. So they gave me 2 options: 1- move to Wendover (small casino town in the middle of no where), or 2- move to Costa Rica and live with my aunt and uncle and their awesome family until I turned 18.
Easy choice! I lived there for one life changing year. I am who I am today because of that one year. I learned SO much and was being prepared for things to come. Plus I became fluent in Spanish as a result of living there.

2. I went 7 high schools, have lived in New York, California, Utah, Texas and Costa Rica.
In case you couldn't tell from #1 - my parents moved A LOT! due to their management jobs. It wasn't very fun, but I did learn to adapt easily to new things by the end.

3. Though I'm super clumsy, I've never broken any bones-
I stub my toe(s) like every other day, and don't make it through a day with out a trip or spill. I must have an amazing guardian angel.

4. I was superwoman in dental hygiene school-
I know that sounds weird or arrogant, but I don't mean it that way. when I look back to that period of time I can't believe all the things I was doing and didn't really realize it then. I was pregnant with Zach and had him in the first year (Josh was 2) , while I was class president, nursed him and pumped everyday 4 times a day at school the second year, drove an hour each way to school & back , graduated magna cum laude, top of my class, scored 98 on boards, 97 on clinicals, studied and slept less than 6 hours a night. Yet, I don't ever remember being tired or overwhelmed and was always really organized. I also earned 5 different academic scholarships that paid for my tuition, supplies, and cost of living, so I went to hygiene school for free and even got paid a little. Fast forward to now, sleepy all of the time yet get 8 hrs of sleep, my house is always a mess no matter how much I try to stay on top of it, I don't get much accomplished (on paper anyway) and I'm not as organized as I used to be (super scatterbrained!) and I often feel overwhelmed... but I love it. I think I'm a better mom because of hygiene school. But I still look back and scratch my head, wondering how on earth I did that. One theory- I had super parent- in laws and husband that supported me and made it possible. Thanks mom and dad Asay and Mike for helping make one of my dreams come true!

5. I secretly like it when my kids are sick. (mildly sick not scary or hurting),
I know that sounds bad, but I kind of like it when I get to baby my babies, and watch Disney movies , read, and just be with them all day at home. Gives me a good excuse to let them eat on the couch, let the house go to pot, and do nothing but veg with my kids and enjoy being a mom. I know I should do that all the time anyway, but then nothing would get done. So hurray for occasional colds!

6. Mike and I have our own language(S)- in two ways: 1-
the dental language- both being in the dental field, we have discovered that we can talk about teeth for hours at a time without anyone around us knowing what the heck we're saying- pretty fun- we love it.
2- Sillyness /weirdness language- Mike will die when he knows I'm telling, but I think it's pretty normal to have your own spouse language. When we dated I noticed that he changed the names of things (an Asay thing) and I loved that about him and found myself doing the same thing w/out realizing it. But my silly names sounded weirder and not as cutsie. Mike thought this was hilarious and decided to compete with me on weirdness. So now we talk about stuff using the weird names we've adopted over the years and understand each other perfectly. Our kids give us really funny looks sometimes wondering how we're understanding each other. They're catching on and adopting the language as they decipher the code. Interesting thing is we never slip, when people are around we don't do it at all, but the second we're alone it naturally comes out.

Happy Father's Day!!

To all the wonderful Dads out there!!

Happy Father's Day- Feliz Dia Del Padre!!!

Especially to our sweet Dads- We love you and are so thankful for you in our lives!!! You are amazing examples to us and we want you to know how much you mean to us!!
For Father's day we put a puzzle together in your honor. For teaching us and giving us the tools to put the pieces together in life :) Love you!!!

The Happiest place on Earth!

WE made it to Disneyland!! Our family vacation this year was in Phoenix, AZ. So I convinced Mike that 5 hours to Disneyland was probably the closest we were ever going to get. So... we drove up the night before, for one action packed, fun filled day! I didn't take many good pictures, I was having too much fun and kept forgetting to take the darn camera out! I'm posting some disneys and phoenix pictures. I didn't want to bore everyone with too many pictures, so if you're interested you can take a peek at our slideshow posted above.

It was such a fun week!! We didn't want it to end. It felt so good to get away from everything and just hang with the kids. Aside from disneyland, we didn't do much other than swim, lounge, sleep in, read and play games. That part- sooo relaxing.
The not so relaxing part... the 38 hours of driving (28hrs to and from phoenix, 10hrs to and from disneyland!) But totally worth it!! The kids actually did great, it was Mike and I that were the fussy ones :) Now Mike and I just need a little vacation from our vacation! Would we do it again?... In a heart beat.

Princess Heaven!!!
Belle is Savannah's favorite princess!! (she's mine too, I wish I had a taken a picture with her too!) She was the sweetest too, she talked to Savannah for a really long time and played with her hair. What a princess!!
Does she look like the real snow white or what?! (if snow white were real)

Jasmine...

Aurora AKA: Sleeping Beauty

Sav's second fav- Ariel. Check out her tone arms, I wish mine looked like that! I need to become a mermaid this summer :)

Honey I shrunk the audience, though from this angle, the girls are shrunken and the boys got blown up!!

Phoenix Fun

I LOVE dry heat!! 105 with zero humidity- I'd take that any day of the week vs 90 degrees with 100% humidity! Love TX but not the humidity! Dry fun.

Savannah and my favorite thing were the purple cacti that were everywhere. Zach insisted that someone spray painted them. Cacti fun.
